New River Line

More often than not, descriptive words such as "Fresh and Original" are very much over used when it comes to describing musical groups, especally relatively unknown ones. And with so many bands in the field of bluegrass music these days, it takes some pretty fancy footwork to live up to the billing.

"I'm Moving On" contains 12 tracks of original material mostly written by guitarist Dave Carroll, with one co-written with mandolin player Adam Collinsworth and an instrumental written by banjo player Johnny Branham. Resonphonic guitarist Jerry Wayne Chaney sings lead on a couple tracks, including the title track "I'm Moving On", with his wife Kim Chaney contributing backup vocals on one track, "Forever Till The End".

"I'm Moving On" was recorded at Jack's Tracks Studios in Lowmansville, KY, and produced by Dave Carroll, engineered by Jack Priode, mixed and mastered by Ron Stewart.

"This recording is terrific! It has all of the elements needed to make it a hit in the music world. Great instrumentation and singing by the guys, great songs, great studio sound, and not to mention that David Carroll is quickly becoming one of the finest songwriter's in our business as well. Good job fellows! This CD is a must for anyone's collection!!" - Steve Dilling Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out March 2011

A word from Dave...

Too many people go through this life and never have the chance to meet and truly get to know a exceptional person. I was lucky enough to do just that in 2002 when I met a gentleman from Irvine Kentucky, his name was Jerry Wayne Chaney. We met through a mutual picking friend Ronnie King at Ron's house on a cold, rainy winter afternoon for a jam. His talent was obvious and was only overshadowed by his laughter and personality. I'd heard of Jerry sometime before I ever met him, and he more than lived up to the billing. We became friends right off, and over the next few months we formed a band along with Ron and a young banjo slinger by the name of Jamie Sparks. We decided to name the band New River Line. Over the next several years, nearly 8 to be exact, we shared our musical dreams by traveling all over this country as well as to Canada, and also by completing no less than 3 recordings from 2003-2010. June 10, 2010 brought as dark a day as a friend and band member could possibly have when we lost Jerry to a automobile accident near his hometown of Irvine. For the literally Thousands of people that knew and loved Jerry, you need no words from me to describe the type of person that he was, nor the lives that he touched. For those that might read this that didn't have the blessing of meeting or knowing him, here's just a few thoughts and observations by someone that was lucky enough to have him in my life. Jerry was a exceptional musician and vocalist who held a heart felt reverence for the music that he played, and those that had played it before him. The chance to work up a new tune was to Jerry what opening up a new present was to a little child on Christmas morning. I've seen his eyes sparkle to the degree that I believe they'd cast off an external ray in the dark. He was the best vocalist in the band by far, but most times deferred the lead work to me, that's just how he was. When we started New River Line, Jerry played bass because that's what we needed. But it wasn't long until his love for the Resophonic Guitar couldn't be restrained any longer. We hired a bassist from Berea named Mike Parker, and Jerry made the move to fulltime Reso Player. I've never seen anyone work harder to broaden their skills than Jerry did, although it was truly a labor of love. His hard work and dedication surely paid off many times fold, as he became a outstanding dobro player. But that only makes sense, because he had a mastery of nearly anything he picked up. As great a musician as Jerry was, he was even a better human being. Everyone that he ever met felt like they had always known him. I used to joke on stage that I believed that if we were to go to Mars and play a bluegrass show that Jerry would see someone that he knew. If we were at a festival and I knew that we had 30 minutes to get to the stage, I'd start getting Jerry going in that direction another 30 minutes sooner, because I knew it would take that long for him to stop and talk to everyone that he knew. Jerry's wife Kim always joked that she hated even going to Walmart with Jerry, because what should have been a 30-minute shopping trip always turned into 2 hours. That was Jerry. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. When Jerry passed, people lined up for hours at his viewing. There were so many that showed up for his service that there were more people outside of the Church than there were inside, still they came. An outreached hand and a million dollar smile. These are the things that Jerry Wayne offered everyday to not only those he knew, but also those he'd never met. I've heard it said, that the account of ones life that he spends while here on this earth could be best summarized by the response of others once he's gone. Well Jerry, you knocked it clean out of the park my friend. Rest in Eternal Peace with your God Almighty, the one to which you dedicated your life, heart and soul. - Dave Carroll
